Thomas Jefferson, the inventor of this device, called it \u201cwheel cypher\u201d. It is also known as Bazeries Cylinder. As you may guess this spy gadget was designed in order to encipher messages. It consists of 36 disks with 26 letters on the edge of each. The order of the letters is different for each disk and each disk has a different number. Disks can be removed and their order is the cipher key. This system was used by the US Army in 1923-1942 as the M-94<\/a>.<\/p>\n
